RADIO PARADISE — An impressively eclectic listerner-supported multi-stream internet radio station with excellent interactive and community-building features. Upload your own songs to be played.
TRILLIAN — Very slick instant messaging (IM) program that replaces Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, etc. in a single easy-to-use application. My favorite feature is that it's plugged into the Wikipedia - you can not only view entries for words in the conversation, but easily copy them as well.
AVAST! — This exceptional antivirus software is best described as pro-active - it's got it all under control; you'll almost forget that viruses exist. ‘Free’ to the home user in renewable 14-mo. licenses.
ZONE ALARM — A nice easy-to-use firewall program - a bit of a process for some to dial it in, but it gets increasingly transparent with use. Most useful for those on pre-XP versions of Windows.
JHYMN — Free your iTunes downloads from digital rights management.
ZIP GENIUS — My favorite compression utility for several years running now, but it just got better - the new 7-zip compression format produces results you've got to see to believe. I actually didn't believe it at first and had to re-open the compressed file to be sure.
KIRUPA.com — A great resource for Flash and general web developers.
OPENOFFICE.org — An excellent open source office software suite.
SLYANDTHEFAMILYSTONE.net — Apparently unfinished (yet still very cool) web homage to my hero, the great Sly Stone, and his family.
CAR TALK FROM NPR — I wait all week long to hear these goofballs on the air and then I'll listen to the show again online - somehow I got to be a real sucker for overly-programmed talk show programs.
